Obituary
Margaret Jane Thompson of Washington Township - beloved wife, mother, aunt and grandmother - passed away peacefully at the age of 82, on the morning of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with her family by her side. A resident of Austin Trace Health & Rehabilitation, Margaret faced a courageous 40+ year battle with multiple sclerosis, demonstrating unwavering strength and resilience throughout her life.
Margaret was born on March 7, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Harry W. and Janet (Kegler) Rogers. She graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne and attended Ball State University before marrying her hometown sweetheart, Duane "Doc" Thompson. Doc and Margaret had two sons and celebrated a long and loving marriage. They moved from Indiana to Ohio, Texas, Minnesota, and ultimately back to Ohio, where they settled as a family in Washington Township for the remainder of their life together.
In her younger years, Margaret was a force to be reckoned with. She had impeccable taste and held herself along with everyone in her family to a high standard. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. She loved taking care of them, organizing family gatherings and treating her favorite fur babies, Mindy and Coco. Margaret will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of humor and generosity. She loved to read, cook, decorate, garden and watch the cardinals from her sunroom. Margaret also thoroughly enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors and helping her community through outreach programs like "Meals on Wheels." She was a longstanding member of the P.E.O sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and husband Doc, who passed away in 2018, just one day shy of their 54th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her brother, Bill (Candy) Rogers, her sons David (Joanna) Thompson and Michael (Angela) Thompson; her four grandchildren, Lauren, Jacob, Kendall, and Delaney; and seven nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10:30-12:15 pm on Friday February 21 at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd., Kettering. Services will be held at 12:15 pm at the funeral home, Rev. Joe Getts officiating. Entombment immediately following at David's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Margaret's name to the National M.S. Society or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
