The story of Emma Medellin Garcia ( faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ)
A mother (of four), grandmother (of twelve) and great-grandmother of four) was born on Aug 8, 1933, the fourth of five children of Casimiro Medellin and Soledad Gocher, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
She was born into a faith filled household as her father was a Presbyterian pastor. Both he and her mother taught her of Jesus and His love. Emma developed a deep love and unwavering faith in Him.
She met the love of her life , Nehemias Garcia, also an ordained pastor, at the Presbyterian conferences in Mexico. She married at 18y/o on Aug 8, 1951, and had her first two children in Mexico. The new family of four next moved to Texas, beginning a new lifelong adventure in ministry in a new amazing country, where her next two children were born.
Emma was intimately involved in her husband’s ministry and service to the Lord as a pianist, organist and women’s bible study leader. Her and her husband’s ministry involved numerous cities, including not only several in Texas, but Washington DC, Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, OH.
Her university studies in education began, despite her deep involvement in the ministry and being a mother of four, in 1967 in Texas. Through perseverance, determination and believing all things are possible through God, she graduated from California State Los Angeles many years later in 1981.
She carried this persistence and determination into all aspects of her life. She encouraged all her children to go into higher education and worked with each to be able to attain this goal. She was known as an avid encourager of others in their faith journeys. Stories abound as to how she exuded and extended peace and love to others in their daily lives and in their times of need.
Emma loved to travel, cook her special Mexican dishes for her family, play the piano and go for walks in nature. More than anything she loved spending time with her children and their families and speaking of God’s love to others.
We are filled with gratitude that we were given the gift of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Emma Medellin Garcia. She has left an enduring legacy to us and to those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her four children George Garcia (Janet), Roger Garcia, Emma Fisco (James) and David Garcia (Dru) and twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
