Emma Elizabeth Hankins, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away on April 10, 2025. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on June 27, 1937.
Emma attended Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne Indiana. During high school her stenographer skills were so impeccable that she worked for a lawyer and a corporate executive. She married Harold Hankins in 1958 and moved to San Diego, CA where she worked for NCR. After the birth of her first daughter, Debbie, they moved to Columbus, Ohio. While there she had their second daughter Sherry. The family moved to the Dayton Ohio area in 1974.
She was a wonderful and caring homemaker to her husband and two children. Once the children were in high school, she had a career as a medical stenographer and receptionist with Dayton Internists for 22 years.
She volunteered in many capacities with her church and following her battle with cancer she gave of her time in supporting others going through the same. She loved cooking, sewing and gardening.
Emma is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold (who says “Emma was the best thing that ever happened to me”), her daughter Debbie Tegart (husband Michael) and is preceded in death by her daughter Sherry. She is survived by three granddaughters and their spouses, Rachael and Adam Sadler, Laura and Adam Falconer, Erica and Marshal Livingston. She is survived by one great grandson, Arlo Falconer.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents Gerhardt and Wanda Harbarth and her sister Marlene Gregory. Surviving nieces include Diana and Shawn Meese (and family) and Lisa Bush (and family).
Funeral services are provided by Tobias Funeral Home. Visitation at 11am and Funeral service at noon, will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kettering Ohio on April 28, 2025.
Donations, in lieu of flowers may be given to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
