Obituary of Beverly Ann Ungerleider M.D.
IN THE CARE OF
Anderson Funeral Home
In Loving Memory of Beverly Ungerleider, MD.
Dr. Beverly Ungerleider passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 6, 2025 at her farm in Springboro, at 85.

Born on September 28, 1939, Beverly was a dedicated pediatrician, a loving mother, grandmother, and a tireless advocate for children.

She graduated from Fairmont High School (1957), Miami University (1961) and the Ohio State University College of Medicine (1965) —where she was one of eight women in a class of 150. Beverly began her medical career at Dayton Children’s Hospital in 1969. In 1978, she helped establish one of the area’s first child abuse prevention clinics. That work laid the foundation for what later became the CARE House at Dayton Children’s Hospital. Additionally, she organized and ran the first pediatric diabetic and cerebral palsy clinics in the Dayton area. For her efforts, she was honored as one of Dayton’s Top Ten Women (1983) and received the Emeritus Distinguished Service Award from Dayton Children’s Hospital in (2012).

In 1980, she opened a pediatric practice in Springboro—the first in Warren County—which grew into Springboro Pediatrics. She shared her knowledge as an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton and Wright State’s Boonshoft School of Medicine, and frequently served as an expert witness in child abuse cases.

Her calm presence, easy smile, and collection of colorful pins and toys made visits to Dr. Bev a little easier for nervous young patients. She had a way of connecting to people which made them feel seen and safe— kids, parents, and colleagues alike. Even 25 years after her retirement, her children often meet former patients who speak glowingly of what a wonderful doctor she was.

Outside of work, Beverly had a full and joyful life. She was a lifelong Reds fan, listening to nearly every game on the radio. She followed Ohio State football and the Bengals with enthusiasm. She was a gifted artist, avid reader, enjoyed quilting and gardening. Her farm was her sanctuary where she loved cooking for family and enjoying the quiet of country living. One of her greatest joys was shopping for antiques with her best friend and neighbor of 50 years, Judy Smith.

Her love of horses was a lifelong passion—so deep that she brought her horse with her to Miami University. In later years, she shared that love with her grandchildren, encouraging them to ride, take lessons, compete in horse shows, and purchased a few horses for them. Beverly supported her grandchildren in all of their interests—whether at the barn, on the field, volleyball court, in the theater, or at an art show. She was unabashedly proud of them.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Helen Turner; her sister, Juanita; and her former husband, James Ungerleider, MD.

She is survived by her three children—Jason (Jennifer), Matthew, and Kippy; her five grandchildren: Kyra Ungerleider, Tess Ungerleider, Evan King, Madeline Ungerleider, and Addison King; and her honorary son, Jay Kyne (Cindy). She leaves behind countless dear friends, former patients, and colleagues who shared her journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Beverly’s memory to make a donation in her name to CARE House at Dayton Children’s Hospital, the organization that grew from her early work and continues to help children in need. Lastly, the family would like to thank the staff of Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for their assistance, compassion and incredible professionalism.
