Obituary
Deborah M McFarland, 74 of Dayton, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Optimized Senior Living in Kettering. Preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Catherine McFarland, she was born in Brookville, OH but lived most of her life in the Centerville area. A 1968 graduate of Centerville High School, Deb worked as a Yellow Page Service Marketing Representative.
An only child, Deb has a cousin, Betsy, in Wichita, KS and an ex-husband, Jay, In Milwaukee, WI. During her 18-year marriage, she and Jay both worked in WI where they enjoyed boating, concerts, and playing with their 3 dogs. She and Jay remained friends and stayed in contact with each other after they divorced.
In second grade, Deb met Kris Siens and the Siens clan which became her second family. Debbie loved the chaos of the big family and received her first spanking from Mrs. Siens, who was the only one who could talk Deb into allowing her to pull her baby teeth. Deb also was honored to be Kurt Siens’ Godmother.
After her divorce, she returned to her childhood home to care for her mother who passed away in 2002.
Deb had a spunky sense of humor, along with her Irish temper, and loved to laugh. Although she loved the 1967 SS Camaro that her dad left her, her greatest loves were her two Golden Retrievers Winston and Max.
After retiring, Deb cleaned homes and built many lasting friendships with clients and neighbors.
COVID presented a difficult time for Deb, and she started having health issues. Kathy (Siens) Wright began helping Deb with doctor visits and other needs. After several hospital visits, Deb required rehabilitation and more one-on-one care., so Kathy and Kris moved her into various nursing homes.
In November of 2024, Deb had a debilitating stroke from which she never recovered.
A special thank you to Quaker Heights in Waynesville, OH, and Optimized Senior Living in Kettering, OH, and Day City Hospice in Dayton, OH for their loving and continuous care. Cremation will be handled by Tobias Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held at the Community Mausoleum Chapel at David’s Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd, Kettering, on February 24, 2025, at 11 AM.
