Obituary of William "Bill" G. Rohr
IN THE CARE OF
Tobias Funeral Home - Far Hills Chapel
ROHR, William George “Bill”, age 89, of Kettering, passed away peacefully, Monday morning, October 21st, 2024 at his Carlyle House apartment, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda, in 2011, his parents, Dallas L. Rohr, in 1978, and C. Bernice Rohr (Friend), in 1990, and his sister, Jeanette “Jenny” Marra (Rohr), in 2018. Dad was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. A native of Kettering, Bill worked for the Monsanto and EG&G Corporations for 34 years at the Mound Facility in Miamisburg. Upon retirement, he was a long-time volunteer for the Kettering Police Department and served in a number of capacities, including assistant to the City of Kettering’s Animal Control Officer, as well as an active participant in the Kettering Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.

Bill’s greatest love was his 60+-year membership in the Dayton Metro Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He loved barbershop music and the barbershop style. Over the years dad sang three of the four parts, but his favorite was baritone. He served for many years in a variety of positions including section leader, vocal coach, quartet coach, and assistant director. He also participated in numerous quartets over the years and competed in many contests with both the chorus and many of these quartets. He also served for many years in an administrative capacity at both the chapter and district (regional) levels.

Bill was a long-time member of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church and, up until his passing, was the church’s oldest surviving member. Those who knew Bill will remember seeing him in the choir or, on occasion, performing solos for a variety of different services and special events. Over the years he also served on a number of committees and was always willing to help those in need.

He is survived by his children: Steve Rohr and his wife Lynn, of Centerville; and Melissa Roderick and her husband Todd, of Xenia Township. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Brittney Rohr, of Centerville; and Natalie Berens (Rohr), of Columbus. His first great grandchild is expected the first week of December.

Dad was a cancer survivor beating both colon and pancreatic cancer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice of Dayton in his name.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429. A Funeral Service will be conducted immediately following the visitation by the Reverend Amy Duiker, Pastor, Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church. A private, graveside service will be held for the family.

The family of Bill Rohr would like to express their sincere appreciation to everyone at Buckeye Home Health Care, The Carlyle House, and Hospice of Dayton for their compassion and kindness over the past several months. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
